This blog began with our journey to China when we received our adopted daughter and third child, Alexandra. The lady bug is the common symbol, or mascott for adopted Chinese daughters. The blog has since evolved into a journal of our trials, triumphs, joys and complete loss of sanity (that is often restored by copious amounts of chocolate or beer- taken only on an as needed basis, of course), as we embrace daily life with four beautiful little children.

What I've learned as a backstage Mom

Theater advice for the backstage Mom:

- Never enter backstage without a pocket full of safety pins, another pocket full of bobby pins, scissors, a sharpie, and a roll of masking tape on your wrist.

- It really sucks when you are late for their cue.  Let them on stage late- the kids themselves will let you have it.

- It's impossible to shut them up backstage.  Be prepared for that.

- Always know where everyone's props are.  The most common phrase heard backstage:  "I can't find my.....!"  (followed by panic).

- They will bicker.  "So and so stepped on my foot!"  It's annoying.  Be prepared for that.

- They don't appreciate your help very much.  The adults do, but not the kids.  But they need you a lot.  Someday they'll realize it.  Just keep giving them what they need.

-  Be ready to apply make-up, fix hair, dress and undress them... you have exactly one minute.

-  It's a hard job.  But when you see your kid shining on stage and having the time of his life....it'll all be worth it.
