This blog began with our journey to China when we received our adopted daughter and third child, Alexandra. The lady bug is the common symbol, or mascott for adopted Chinese daughters. The blog has since evolved into a journal of our trials, triumphs, joys and complete loss of sanity (that is often restored by copious amounts of chocolate or beer- taken only on an as needed basis, of course), as we embrace daily life with four beautiful little children.

Please Oppose FOCA

Last week Joe came up to me and said, "Mom! John McCain won!"
"No, honey", I answered him. "He lost."
"No, Mom. We had an election at school and the kindergartners voted for McCain.", said Joe proudly with a grin that indicated that he was one of the McCain voters.

Hmmm....if only America would've listened to her kindergartners....for more reasons than one, but especially for the right to life issue.

Last spring Obama declared that the first thing he'd do as president is sign the Freedom of Choice Act (FOCA). Contrary to its name, this bill would actually limit our freedoms. FOCA is not pro-choice, it is pro-abortion. It goes far beyond the right for a woman to choose. Under FOCA, the following freedoms would be stripped from Americans:

- The right for doctors and other medical staff with moral objections to abortion to 'opt out' of participating in abortion related procedures.

- The right for taxpayers who morally object to abortion to refuse funding abortions out of pocket.

- The right for parents to be informed and give consent for their child under 18 who may be seeking an abortion. (Can you imagine how frightening? I wouldn't allow a doctor to touch my child for a hang nail without consent)!

- The right for women seeking abortions to be provided with information about alternatives to abortion (out goes the option of adoption), the health risks to herself, and the ramifications of abortion. Essentially, this is the part where "choice" is taken out of the equation.

-The right for a fully developed baby to be protected from being brutally killed in the absolutely BARBARIC act of partial-birth abortion. I don't know how anyone can stomach this procedure being performed on an animal, let alone a helpless baby. This horrible act was banned by the Supreme Court in 2007 and would be overturned if the FOCA were to pass.

-And worse yet, the right for a baby "accidentally born" during an abortion procedure to be protected under the law. In other words, FOCA allows for the legalization of a possible infanticide.

My dear family and friends if you are a Christian, I urge you to please go here and sign this petition to oppose FOCA. Even if you are pro-choice, your freedom of having information about your options available to you, including the health risks of the abortion procedure itself, will become limited. Remember, if FOCA does not pass, things remain status quo. Abortion will continue to be legal and the states will maintain its rights to oversee the specifics. To learn more about what FOCA is and what it would do, please visit here.

This little child needs your help!
