Joe hitches a ride

Joe skiing with his dad

This weekend we attempted our first ski trip with the boys. The boys had been anticipating it all week, and getting them charged up for the occasion was not a problem. When told that we were going to take them to a mountain and teach them how to ski, Joe replied, "Sounds cool, do they have any jumps?"
In lieu of the old fashioned rope tows, modern ski resorts now have what's known as a 'magic carpet' to lug beginners up the bunny hill. Have you heard of it? It looks like a little conveyor belt in the supermarket, but instead of putting your groceries onto it, you are supposed to put yourself and your kid onto it. This was our first experience with the magic carpet and we learned a few lessons along the way:
Lesson 1: Be prepared to fall on your a*%
Lesson 2: Be prepared to lose your poles
Lesson 3: Be prepared to stop 586 times while on board
Lesson 4: When it does stop, please refer to Lesson 1
Despite the few mishaps, we ended up having a pretty good day. The boys really got the hang of it after a few trials and were starting to ski on their own, by the time we left. Kids pick up skiing skills very quickly. Unfortunately for them, novice adults have a bit of a harder time learning the sport. Poor Aaron got hit by three different out-of-control adult beginners, while standing in line. All of them apologized profusely. At least we think so... the majority of them couldn't speak English. (And you should've seen them trying to ride the conveyor belt).
