This blog began with our journey to China when we received our adopted daughter and third child, Alexandra. The lady bug is the common symbol, or mascott for adopted Chinese daughters. The blog has since evolved into a journal of our trials, triumphs, joys and complete loss of sanity (that is often restored by copious amounts of chocolate or beer- taken only on an as needed basis, of course), as we embrace daily life with four beautiful little children.

The weekend

Weekends are supposed to be restful, right?

Then why does our typical weekend look something like this?:

Get the girls to gymnastics- But don't plan on going anywhere until the pony tails are done, the missing mitten is found, and the snow is brushed off the car. Prepare to be 10 minutes late, because face it, you are every week. But this week there's the added bonus of forgetting your purse at home because you're in such a hurry, which means you can't pay this month's gymnastics fees.

Get to Guiding Eyes dog class- Since you are a regular volunteer there and haven't been for four months, you really ought to go. Bring the boys too- they'll enjoy it, as long as they're back home in time for basketball.

Get the boys home for basketball- Faster...faster... you're late again. Never mind the fact that you had to follow a miserable utility truck who's chosen today to catch up with his Aunt Matilda on the cell phone, thus driving 30 miles an hour the whole way. And please stop fantasizing about driving him off the road into a ditch...it's not polite and it's not the Massachusetts way. Well, okay, maybe it IS the Massachusetts way, but it's not polite. When you return home, expect an earful from you're husband (because after all, you made him late too- he's the coach)! Think about having a drink, No, it's too early, eat chocolate, but take your headache medicine at the same time, before it gets worse.

Feed lunch to the starving daughters who didn't get kicked out of gymnastics because your husband picked them up and covered your a%* by remembering his wallet (unlike yourself), and paid the fees.

Complain about your weekend on the blog.

Call your Dad, it's his birthday.

Prepare a birthday present and haul a kid off to a birthday party. Never mind that you didn't prepare in advance, scrounge something up and make it look pretty.

Somehow get caught up on loads of dishes and laundry. The dog needs some attention too- give it to her.

Tomorrow- don't forget about church and grocery shopping. Try to hide out somewhere for some down time, while the boys are watching football. Oh, wait, can't. Gotta haul another kid off to another birthday party.

Get ready for Monday, because it's almost here! Rest time is over- get moving!
