This blog began with our journey to China when we received our adopted daughter and third child, Alexandra. The lady bug is the common symbol, or mascott for adopted Chinese daughters. The blog has since evolved into a journal of our trials, triumphs, joys and complete loss of sanity (that is often restored by copious amounts of chocolate or beer- taken only on an as needed basis, of course), as we embrace daily life with four beautiful little children.

What a Mess

When Aaron was two, one of his favorite things to say was, "What a mess." He literally would size up a situation, and if it didn't meet his organizational expectations, he would announce, "What a mess." (He's still that way).

That sort of describes his father last weekend. Not to pick on John as a dad, especially this weekend (he's the best!), but last Saturday was just one of those days worth mentioning. It's like a little "clumsy" rain cloud followed him around all day. Here are some highlights:

1) Our kitchen ceiling was stained from water damage and John attempted to fix it. He bought some of that popcorn ceiling spray and couldn't wait to get started. So much so, that he failed to remove things from the kitchen first. He just removed the cap from the bottle, aimed, and sprayed. Within 5 seconds I had ceiling spray covering the computer desk and chair (yes, it's still in the kitchen), my jacket, the knives, microwave, cupcake tray, the watermelon, and himself. Unfortunately, the ceiling spray didn't match, so he had to take it all down again and start over. This time, I removed the stuff from the kitchen before I let my trigger happy husband return to the scene.

2) While in distress from the mess he had just made, and in anticipation of the enormous clean-up job that awaited him, he opened the fridge to get out a diet coke... only to have an entire carton of yogurt fall out and land on his feet.

3) Later, after cleaning up the ceiling spray/yogurt mixture from the kitchen floor, we finished dinner and John was bringing some cupcakes out to the kids for dessert. (Hey, I said the cupcake tray got hit with ceiling spray, not the cupcakes. They were covered up, okay?) We were eating dinner on the patio that night and because the patio is screened in, we usually leave the sliding doors and screens open for easy access in and out of the house. Apparently Christina was the last one out on the patio and unbeknownst to John, she closed the screen door behind her. So when John went out with his plate of cupcakes for the kids, he walked through the screen, which consequently tipped the entire cupcake plate into his chest. He was covered in frosting and managed to earn himself another shower.

What a mess.
