This blog began with our journey to China when we received our adopted daughter and third child, Alexandra. The lady bug is the common symbol, or mascott for adopted Chinese daughters. The blog has since evolved into a journal of our trials, triumphs, joys and complete loss of sanity (that is often restored by copious amounts of chocolate or beer- taken only on an as needed basis, of course), as we embrace daily life with four beautiful little children.

Relay for Life

My cousins Jenny, Julia, and Jenny's daughter Hannah made their local newspaper today for all of their efforts in the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life. In 2005 they lost their dad (my Uncle Jerry) to cancer. Less than two years prior to that, the disease also took the lives of Jerry's sister- my grandmother, as well as my grandpa on the other side of my family. Many others we love have been diagnosed with this dreadful disease and I don't think I know anyone whose life hasn't been affected by it in some way. Though it may seem hopeless at times, it's nice to know that people are out there making an effort to do something about it.

Jenny, Julia, my Aunt Kathi and others in their area have worked hard yearly at raising money for Relay for life. Please check out their spotlight here.

Way to go Jen and Julia!
