I love the first day of February. Not only is it my oldest (that is, the one I've known the longest) friend's birthday, (Happy Birthday Jenn!) it is also a celebration of the end of my least favorite month. It is the outlook of new hope for longer, bright sunny days, now that January is over. And with the termination of 2008's first month, it's the relieving thought that spring is...well...still 2 1/2 months away.
But as I look out my window at the frozen wasteland outside- aside from the few gray squirrels and pathetic birds that were too foolish to not fly south for the winter, I know that tomorrow's groundhog has the potential to replace our frigid winter sorrows with hope. Indeed, these short-lived winter days shall fade like the tide.
Hallelujah!
