This blog began with our journey to China when we received our adopted daughter and third child, Alexandra. The lady bug is the common symbol, or mascott for adopted Chinese daughters. The blog has since evolved into a journal of our trials, triumphs, joys and complete loss of sanity (that is often restored by copious amounts of chocolate or beer- taken only on an as needed basis, of course), as we embrace daily life with four beautiful little children.

Dinner Time Solutions

If you happen to make stir fry lo-mein for dinner and the only ingredient in the house that actually makes it a stir fry dish is hot and spicy Szechuan sauce, fear not, there is a way to get the kids to eat it. You can try the slightly cruel, but sure to work John H. method.

Step 1: Serve spicy noodles to all children without saying a word.

Step 2: Watch oldest daughter wolf it down like there's no tomorrow.

Step 3: Comment on how tough oldest daughter is. Indicate that she may even be the toughest kid in the family.

Step 4: Watch oldest boys eat their meals with tears streaming down their faces and while consuming about half a glass of milk in between bites.

*Side note: This meal is not recommended for Irish blooded infants. If offered, expect immediate rejection.
