This blog began with our journey to China when we received our adopted daughter and third child, Alexandra. The lady bug is the common symbol, or mascott for adopted Chinese daughters. The blog has since evolved into a journal of our trials, triumphs, joys and complete loss of sanity (that is often restored by copious amounts of chocolate or beer- taken only on an as needed basis, of course), as we embrace daily life with four beautiful little children.

You Know They're 4 When...

...They change the words of a most popular song to "If you're stinky and you know it, clap your hands", and then break down into hysterical laughter.

...They can finally deliver the punch line of a knock-knock joke correctly.

...Their conversations with adults are usually one-way, by constantly asking the question, WHY? For example,
- Why does a table stand on 4 legs?
- Why is it Friday?
- Why does milk come out of a cow's udders?

...And the answers you provide only inspire them to ask another question. For example:
-"Why did all the snow melt?"
"Because it's warm outside."
- "Why is it warm outside?"
"Because it's spring."
-"Why is it spring?"

...Your dinner table reminds you of your elementary school lunch-time table conversations

...Butts are hilarious. Absolutely hilarious.

...They drive you nuts and crack you up all in the same minute

I have one answer for all the "why" questions.... First buy the Encyclopedia Britannica from that total geek wad on the commercial. Then you can just say: "I don't know look it up!"
