This blog began with our journey to China when we received our adopted daughter and third child, Alexandra. The lady bug is the common symbol, or mascott for adopted Chinese daughters. The blog has since evolved into a journal of our trials, triumphs, joys and complete loss of sanity (that is often restored by copious amounts of chocolate or beer- taken only on an as needed basis, of course), as we embrace daily life with four beautiful little children.

Sisters

Stephanie says I have to update my blog because it's been a whole week. (Maybe she should check the last time she updated her blog)!

The day we brought Christina home was exciting for all of us. Everyone except Allie, that is. As she watched her new baby sister sleeping in her crib, she was content to point and smile and say "Baby". Then something happened that she didn't expect. The baby moved! And then the baby made noise! Allie decided then that the baby was terrifying and she cried for the next hour straight. John had to take her out of the room to get her to calm down.

Trying to put ourselves in a one-and-a-half-year-old's head, we were finally able to make some sense of it. Allie got a cabbage patch doll (quite an ugly one, I must say) for her birthday. Ever since she opened it she's been afraid of the doll. John thought her reaction was funny and he got a kick out of chasing her around the house with it. Big mistake. This terror was transferred into fear of her newborn sister. Thank goodness for the boys. After a few days of watching Aaron and Joe kiss and hold the baby, Allie discovered that the baby is indeed, not a threat at all. She has finally made enough progress to be willing to hold the baby.

These two girls have a lot of years ahead together. While days of jealousy may still be yet to come, I'm glad my first daughter is finally willing to get to know our newest of now two tiny lady bugs.
