This blog began with our journey to China when we received our adopted daughter and third child, Alexandra. The lady bug is the common symbol, or mascott for adopted Chinese daughters. The blog has since evolved into a journal of our trials, triumphs, joys and complete loss of sanity (that is often restored by copious amounts of chocolate or beer- taken only on an as needed basis, of course), as we embrace daily life with four beautiful little children.

What a Mess

We had quite a storm rip through our little town yesterday. Aaron, Joe and I were watching a severe thunderstorm out the kids' bedroom window. When the winds really started howling, I became nervous and moved us away from the window. John came home and ordered us all to the basement. He was in a hurry to get in the house, so he parked his car behind the SUV, instead of next to it, where he usually parks. We waited out the storm for about 15 minutes and then came up to view the damages. A huge limb landed in our driveway right where John usually parks his car! The limb fell from so high up it would've smashed the car. Our fence wasn't so lucky, but our chicken house was. What was amazing about this storm is that the force of the wind was able to tear in half perfectly healthy trees, but was so precisely directed that our aluminum folding lawn chairs were left standing upright in the back yard. Fortunately, no one in the area was hurt, as far as we know. Our neighbors had a tree smash into the roof of their garage. We heard a lot of chain saws running today, since everyone's property in our neighborhood is heavily forested.

Aaron has never been fond of messes. Whenever he notices something that appears disorganized in his little eyes, he always replies "What a mess!" This weekend started out with quite a mess in our yard- how about this one Aaron?
